You will have seen the advertisements and heard the tales
of how much you could earn as a Driving Instructor. Well they
are right. You can earn those amounts, but if that is your
only reason for qualifying as an Instructor:
DO NOT WASTE MY TIME, AND YOUR MONEY.
A career as an Instructor can be a fantastic choice, but
only if you are the right type of person. If you enjoy meeting
people, if you would enjoy teaching them a new skill, watching
them grow in abiity and confidence, are prepared to repeat
what you have already taught them again and again, and if
they still cannot master it, can you find a different way
to explain things?
Are you prepared to put the hours in? The salary is only
as good as you are prepared to make it. There are too many
Instructors out there who, in my opinion, are not the most
suitable people to be teaching learner drivers. Without that
enjoyment in teaching, your lessons will become boring for
you, and boring for your pupils, and an hour sitting in a
car can feel like three hours if you are not actively teaching.
So think carefully before you go any further, IS
THIS THE JOB FOR YOU?
Okay. You want to know more. I have not put you right off
the idea, you may be the type of person that the driving industry
needs. To qualify as a Driving Instructor you must have held
a full Driving Licence for at least 3½ years, and not
have any criminal convictions.
